When new members join a Toastmasters club, they often do so with one goal in mind – improving their public speaking or overcoming stage fright. What many don’t realize at first is that they’ve joined more than just one single club. They’ve become part of an area, a division, a district, and eventually up to an international nonprofit organization dedicated to communication and leadership growth.
Still, it can be hard to fully appreciate the opportunities Toastmasters offers until you experience them. This year, members of World Renowned Toastmasters had such a moment when International Speech Finalist, Elaine Royal, visited our club. Her speech left an incredible impression – showing members what’s possible through persistence and courage. Inspired by her example, members began giving more speeches and reigniting their excitement for growth. Seeing excellence up close and hearing her story provided proof of what can be.
This is the power of visiting other clubs. Every visit offers a chance to gain fresh perspectives, share ideas, and discover new ways of approaching public speaking and leadership. Each interaction broadens your comfort zone and strengthens your skills.
That’s why District 25 is promoting the “Destination: Becoming One” incentive (formerly Nemalita Nine). This challenge encourages members to visit at least one club in each of the district’s seven divisions and take a meeting role. Having completed the Nemalita 9 incentive the past two years, I can say firsthand that it has expanded my confidence, introduced me to incredible people, and deepened my appreciation for Toastmasters.
If you’re looking to grow, connect, and challenge yourself, I encourage you to consider this incentive. Make the effort to visit other clubs and discover just how transformative this can be.
I hope you will join me on this incentive as we all continue on our path toward “Becoming One.”
