I had the pleasure of volunteering this past weekend at the 2024 Toastmasters Conference. This marks my third time volunteering, and each year, I embrace a new role to understand how each piece of the puzzle fits together. The conference consistently provides a fantastic and engaging experience, and I thoroughly enjoy working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly for our attendees.
Volunteering allows me to utilize my organizational skills, working with partners to adhere to timelines and ensure we stay on track. I love the creative process and the opportunity to collaborate with our team to find solutions for any challenges that arise. Most importantly, I love working with a team. This is one of the biggest events of my year, and I absolutely LOVE that I get to work with friends and meet new people. Toastmasters is full of servant leaders. One year, I might work with a new speaker or volunteer, and the next year, they could be participating in the DTM ceremony.
Volunteering at the conference is a wonderful opportunity to flex your skills and help create a welcoming space for attendees to feel valued while offering them a chance to learn new skills. If you haven’t volunteered at a conference yet, I highly recommend it. We have experienced individuals who know how to run a smooth event while also training the next generation of leaders. It’s a fantastic way to meet people throughout the district and work together towards a common goal. After all the preparation and hard work, seeing the final result is incredibly rewarding.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and a special thank you to all the volunteers. You are a silent group of miracle workers, and I can’t wait to work with you again!
