by Jesse Ford, DTM, District Director
Growth: Noun
The process of evolving into who you are becoming. Rising from failure and adapting to the unknown. Striving to learn without fear. Reaching for the best to come.
I want to take a moment and share this definition with everyone as I think it will be pivotal to our successes both individually and collectively. For those that may have not been to the Conference and DTM Ceremony in May, or may have not heard, this year my focus as District Director will be Here we GROW. Grow, of course, is an acronym.
G – Gratitude. Everything we do as members and leaders has to start with gratitude. Starting with gratitude will put us in the right mindset to focus on the goals ahead.
R – Relationships. Relationships with people are most important. Students of real leadership will tell you there is a difference. You can manage a process, but you lead people. Focusing on our relationships with others ensures that people know we care.
O – Opportunities. Opportunities are always going to come up. Opportunities are how positive people view obstacles. I encourage you all to not let this next year in Toastmasters go by without taking every opportunity to do more, to learn more and to be more than you ever thought possible.
W – WINS. Wins will come when we do the first three things (Gratitude, Relationship and Opportunities) in the right order. Wins are the result of realizing how important people are, and that doing things together is the recipe for success.
So, with that… I want to encourage everyone in District 25 to GROW this next year. Grow together and find new ways to do things and new ways to help your club and your members. I want to encourage you to challenge yourself and those around you. You will never know all that lies outside your comfort zone, but I can promise you one thing will be…GROWTH.
Here we GROW.
