by Denise McConnell DTM Club Growth Director
As the Club Growth Director, I have the opportunity to develop skills that help expand the reach of District 25 in our local community. Under the guidance of our Region 3 Advisor, Jamie Pickering, I learned the art of cold calling to identify and engage potential companies for club chartering.
I started by curating a list of eight companies that aligned with the characteristics needed for chartering a healthy Toastmasters club. I evaluated each company based on its size, employee demographics, and potential interest in professional development. With a carefully crafted pitch highlighting the benefits of Toastmasters, I confidently approached each facility, introducing myself, the organization, and the potential impact of Toastmasters on their workforce.
Through these cold calls, I discovered a remarkable opportunity to introduce the Toastmasters name and materials to companies and individuals who may have never heard of us. By sharing information about Toastmasters and leaving behind promotional materials, I aimed to spark interest and encourage further exploration. Additionally, I collected contact information to facilitate follow-up and provide continued support throughout the chartering process.
Cold calling has been challenging and rewarding. It has sharpened my communication skills, increased my confidence, and deepened my commitment to spreading the word about Toastmasters. I am excited to continue this endeavor and help more individuals and organizations benefit from this remarkable organization’s transformative power.
