by Lorenzo Narvaez Area 42 Director
The unknown carries a thrill uniquely its own, a feeling I embraced fully as I drove to Mineral Wells, Texas, on June 22, for the Leadership Advance Camp and into my new role as an area director in District 25. Walking through the conference room doors, surrounded by faces as new as the town to me, a feeling of excitement at uncovering new skills and friendships was in the air.
The first day’s activities began with a friendly game of D25 Bingo, easing us into introductions and setting a tone of camaraderie. Shortly after, an announcement of a scavenger hunt planned later that evening caught my curiosity.
As we dove deeper into the camp training, we focused on finding our work styles and learning how to effectively collaborate with other styles. Fundamental to enhancing our capabilities as area and division directors, our training continued on communication, supporting clubs by providing essential information and resources, encouraging clubs with feedback, and building a strong rapport. As representatives of District 25, we are the link that not only connects with but also energizes our clubs.
With these new strategies and insights from camp, our next step was to put these into practice. The scavenger-hunt that evening illustrated this beautifully. Although a fun activity, it was also a practical demonstration of how we could apply our new understanding of work styles and collaboration in a real-world setting. My Division D team used our work style strengths to create a memorable experience, highlighting not only our creativity but our ability to function as a productive team (D25 Div D Scavenger Hunt). This experience proved our readiness to work effectively together to enhance our area clubs’ experience.
The D25 Camp in Mineral Wells was more than just a training camp; it was an experience that tied learning with practical application and fun. The connections made with exceptional leaders and peers was a wonderful experience of fellowship and shared enthusiasm. Reflecting back, I am eager to bring this spirit of growth and collaboration to my clubs.
Although our journey at D25 Camp has ended, the impact of what we’ve learned is just beginning. Here We Grow!
