Am I being picky by picking a Pickering? Absolutely! Allan Pickering is our Outstanding Member of the Month for November – and if you don’t know why, then you must have missed the Summit. I recommend NOT missing the Summit!
Allan’s Summit was filled with fun, wide-ranging workshops, many opportunities to connect, fun, motivation to grow, and more fun. I am 100% sure that if you were there, you found something to Ignite your Fire in at least one of those areas, if not in several.
As Summit Manager, Allan encouraged his committee to grow and experience new things while supporting both their creativity and problem-solving skills. He set an expectation of excellence, with the vision of holding an amazing event worthy of our D25 members. He enabled his committee to achieve that vision by taking ownership of their roles to accomplish great things, while also doing the less glamorous work to ensure that all the ‘i’s were dotted, and all the t’s were crossed’.
Allan also learned and grew through this role of accomplishing new things – he embraced the idea of getting out of his comfort zone and volunteering himself to take on the role of the 2023 Summit Manager. The best thing about a leader who is ‘comfortable being uncomfortable’ is that it encourages others to do the same. Leading by example is one of the best ways to Share Your Sunshine and Allan sure did that by the bucketful this November.
