How can I describe the 2023 Make Your Mark conference?
I could say it was a learning experience.
Throughout the conference, I visited each session, just to catch a word or two from the session speakers. And as fantastic and diverse as the speakers were, what caught my attention was the ENERGY in each room. I could see tiny light bulbs illuminate over conference attendees’ heads. Heads were nodding as they took in the information. They were writing highlights and “aha” moments in their books. And, even in the quiet, reflective activities, I could see the wheels turning as transformations took place.
I could say it was a party.
What happens when the lights go down low (not that low), and the music starts? Toastmasters begin to dance…and dance…and then dance some more. Friday night allowed us to get our boogie on, learn a line dance or two and, of course, go down the soul train line. And if you happened to look to the far right, you may have seen me singing and dancing my heart out to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” (Thanks Jamie P. for the video!)
I could say it was a reunion.
It always amazes me how Toastmasters greet each other. We greet each other with affection. We greet each other with smiles. We greet each other as if we truly value all the person is. We greet each other like family. The laughter is loud, the teasing is relentless, and the unwavering support is always present.
I could say it was a movement.
Attendees used the Make Your Mark wall to write affirmations, goals, and dreams. They used it as a tool to encourage others. Our collective efforts can bring about an experience so powerful lives are transformed in a brief period of time. And it did not stop with the conference weekend.
I could say it was everything I dreamed it would be.
My vision was simple: provide an engaging, thought-provoking learning experience that encourages, empowers, and challenges attendees to pursue opportunity relentlessly. And with that, I do believe, we Made. Our. Mark.
Joyously submitted,
