by The Members of Amarillo Toastmasters
Recently, the members of Amarillo Toastmasters were asked two interesting questions.
-
-
- Why are you a member of the oldest club in Texas?
- What drew you into this club?
-
Here are some of their answers!
“I feel too new to know the answer to the first question and will leave that to other veterans. I can answer the second question, though. I was drawn to this Toastmasters club from a personal development podcast, The School of Greatness. The coach and founder of this podcast shared his personal story towards success in his healthy relationships and passionate career. He attributed this to improving his communication skills and going to Toastmasters every Tuesday as a safe place to nurture this quality. I resonated with those desires and needs and made the decision to give it a try… and here I am.”

“I was interested in Toastmaster Club 211 because it is one of the oldest clubs in Texas. Longevity means a lot for a Toastmaster club. To be an active club for so long indicates that members are dedicated and enjoy spending time with each other. These qualities make a club very attractive.”

“While attending college in the early 1990s, a classmate introduced me to the benefits of Toastmasters. I knew that one day I might want to join to strengthen my public speaking skills and build self-confidence. That opportunity arrived years later when I began a new role and realized that my skills needed further development. I chose Amarillo Toastmasters because it was conveniently located near my home, and I soon discovered the rich history of Club 211. After four years with Amarillo Toastmasters, I’ve experienced tremendous growth, both as a speaker and as an individual.”

“I served as the Area Director 2006-2007. Amarillo Toastmasters was one of the clubs in my area. I joined the club, conducted a Speech Craft, and we revived the club to become distinguished. I earned my DTM in this club. This club thrived during the pandemic by going fully virtual. We even had some members from Argentina and Colombia. This club is truly international.”
– Manisha Abhyankar, DTM
“I came to this club to be a cheerleader for a friend who was a one-time guest speaker. I visited again because the group was so friendly and welcoming. After a few weeks, I joined–an easy decision! It makes me proud when our club president reminds us that we are the oldest club in Amarillo. As a teacher, I speak in front of children all the time, but I want to be more comfortable and poised when speaking to adults, and being a new resident since this summer, I wanted to make new friends. This group has given me a safe space with lots of support on my journey, and it’s exciting to see where it might lead!”
