District 25 Toastmasters, let’s take a close look at what sets thriving clubs apart and how we can proactively support those facing challenges. Successful clubs often share several key traits: they actively engage members, deliver strong speeches, celebrate both big and small achievements, and foster a positive, inclusive environment. These clubs are vibrant with members who feel valued and inspired to participate.
On the other hand, clubs at risk of folding tend to exhibit warning signs such as declining attendance, limited participation in the Pathways program, and a lack of clear vision or direction. It’s important to recognize that each club has its own unique makeup, but certain indicators can help us assess club health and intervene early when needed.
Recognizing these patterns allows us to provide timely and targeted support. Rather than waiting until a club is in crisis, we can make a difference by offering resources and experienced guidance to clubs showing early signs of struggle. That’s where the Helping Hands Program comes in. It’s a proactive approach to strengthening clubs before they reach a tipping point.
Welcome Back the Helping Hands Program
The Helping Hands Program is designed for Toastmasters clubs who are “below charter strength,” meaning they have fewer than 20 members. These clubs may not qualify for a club coach, which is typically reserved for clubs with 12 or fewer members. However, clubs with more than 12 members can still benefit from extra support to boost their meeting quality and member engagement.
Through Helping Hands, experienced Toastmasters step in to assist clubs in need by attending three to four consecutive meetings and filling in roles where needed. This short-term help provides practical support, fresh perspectives, and renewed energy to club meetings without the longer commitment required of a club coach.
Who Can Benefit and Who Can Help?
-
-
- Clubs Eligible for Helping Hands: Any club with fewer than 20 members (below charter strength) that does not qualify for a club coach. Specifically, clubs with more than 12 members but still seeking additional support.
- Helpers: Any experienced Toastmaster interested in serving in a short-term, impactful capacity.
-
