Introduction: Embarking on my Toastmasters journey in April 2006, I navigated through various corporate clubs before finding my current club in 2015. This year, I proudly serve as the President of Highway To Excellence and the District Finance Manager (DFM), a role that unexpectedly found me during a TLI training session.
Responsibilities and Duties: As the DFM, I’m the financial captain of the ship! Steering through the financial waves, I dance with bank accounts, keep the Trio in check, and offer financial guidance to the district. Leveraging my 20+ years of finance experience, I ensure the financial health and stability of District 25.
Challenges and Solutions: We face challenges, like dodging the inflation storm, but fear not! We’re the masters of improvisation. Cutting back, delaying, and a little humor help us weather the financial tempest. The countdown is on, and by June 30th, we’re aiming to shout, “Challenge conquered!”
Collaboration and Communication: Open dialogue is our compass for financial alignment. I’m not just about numbers; I’m the storyteller using budget definitions and lively discussions to ensure every crew member understands the financial plot.
Financial Planning and Forecasting: The second half of my term is the sequel, and I’m thrilled to focus on long-term financial planning. Think of it as adding special effects to an already captivating storyline.
Financial Transparency: Our budget isn’t a secret treasure; it’s online for all to see. Questions? I’m the guide leading the tour. Regular updates and Q&A sessions ensure our crew is always in the financial loop.
Advice for Successor: Future Finance Managers, listen up! Flexibility is your superpower. Expect the unexpected, and remember, communication and documentation are the superhero cape you never knew you needed!
Balance and Integration: Juggling financial responsibilities, district duties, and personal commitments? It’s a high-flying trapeze act. Clear timelines and focus time are my secret weapons. Being Finance Manager has given me a backstage pass to the exhilarating world of running a volunteer-driven show like Toastmasters.
