Compiled by Joann Smith, Abilene Toastmasters Club 1071
Peggy Mae Allen, DTM, was born April 20, 1953, and left us July 14, 2024. She was a wonderful mentor and friend to many people. Some of the members of Abilene Toastmasters Club 1071 shared their memories of Peggy.
George Forbis-Stokes, the current President of Abilene Toastmasters 1071, first met Peggy when waiting for his wife in a meeting room at the Abilene State School. He could tell immediately she was intelligent and friendly.
Joann Smith, the current VPPR of Abilene Toastmasters Club 1071, first met Peggy at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in 1999. Joann said she was warmly welcomed and contacted by Peggy afterwards to make sure she was settling in well in Abilene. Peggy also offered to help her in any way. Peggy even recruited Joann to sing at Windcrest, a living facility for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Jerry Drennan, a long-time member of Abilene Toastmasters Club 1071, says Peggy was always faithful in her attendance, rarely missing a meeting, and always had a kind word, offering praise when deserved, and was a great friend to him.
Larry Prince remembers Peggy as a thoughtful individual, a great Toastmaster, and mentor to many people.
JR, our former president, remembers Peggy as a wonderful person with a relaxing and soothing voice. JR was impressed with her ability to remember details about the member’s presentations. Peggy was a great person, a wonderful Toastmaster, and will be missed by all.
Joann Smith attended a meeting for a Toastmasters Club in North Carolina, where she had been a member, and they had much the same to say about Peggy Allen. They dedicated their meeting held on July 23, 2024, to honor her.

Peggy will be missed. She was a wonderful person, never complained, served her community, and was always willing to show up at contests, TLIs, and anywhere else she was needed.
Goodbye for now, Peggy.
