by Phylliss Christian-Daniels DTM Club Growth Director
My role as Club Growth Director for the past six months has been a whirlwind of excitement, challenges, and profound personal growth. Stepping into this leadership position within Toastmasters has been nothing short of life-changing for me. The responsibility of nurturing the growth and development of clubs has not only tested my organizational skills but also stretched my abilities as a leader.
The challenges are abundant. I have revived struggling clubs and organized marketing initiatives, and I have encouraged the community in the DFW area to charter new clubs. Each obstacle I’ve faced has presented an opportunity to refine my problem-solving skills and to inspire fellow Toastmasters to overcome hurdles together. This experience has taught me the critical importance of effective communication, strategic planning, and adaptability in leadership.
As a Toastmaster, I can attest to the transformative power of taking on a district leadership role. Being the Club Growth Director expands one’s leadership skills and provides a unique vantage point for understanding the intricate dynamics of Toastmasters clubs. This role demands a commitment to service, a passion for personal and collective growth, and the resilience to navigate uncertainties.
For those of you who may be considering a district leadership role, the journey promises not only the satisfaction of contributing to the Toastmasters community, but it also gives you a chance to engage in enduring connections and enhance your leadership growth. It’s a rewarding effort that goes beyond the surface. It has left a lasting impact on both me and the Toastmasters community that I serve.
Five years ago, I started as a Toastmaster, and I immediately took advantage of opportunities to grow from a club officer to an area director, from an area to a division director, and now as Club Growth Director. Each new role has added a wealth of knowledge and growth that I truly wouldn’t have had the opportunity to obtain anywhere else. I encourage you to move beyond the lectern and step outside your comfort zone to explore the possibilities outlined on the D25 website to see what district role the right role for you might be. All it takes is confidence, courage, and commitment.
