Who loves rules, regulations, procedures, policies, minutia, what if’s, how-to’s, and someone named Robert? Not me!
Thankfully, this month’s Outstanding Member of the Month does. Michael Kinser is one of our many behind-the-scenes heroes and a key one without whom the district would struggle in innumerable ways.
I get the impression that as a long time Parliamentarian, Michael has memorized Robert’s Rules of Orders and all the rules, regulations, and related intricacies. Thankfully, and he has shared that expertise as the District Parliamentarian for the past five years running. This means he also has a hand in developing and guiding many of the district policies and practices to keep us compliant with proper parliamentarian procedures and policies.
The specific responsibility I am most appreciative of that he covers for the district is to support our business meetings. Innumerable script revisions happen to make those successful; he goes through them repeatedly with a fine-tooth comb to make sure that we meet all of Robert’s current rules. He provides district leadership training on leading formal discussions, effective time management during meetings, clear articulation of motions, proper onboarding and updates when new motions are introduced, ensuring correct formulation of all motions, and even delving into the details of how to announce the results accurately!
I cannot tell you how thankful and relieved I am that Michael does all of this for District 25. We are so much more efficient and effective as a district because Michael has a passion for the minutiae of rules, and selflessly shares his expertise with us.
Michael, from the bottom of my rule-breaking heart, thank you for keeping us in order!
