A Collaboration by Michael Levy, Diana Patton, Chuck Mencke, and Lawrence Reid
The District 25 web team consists of Michael Levy, Webmaster, as well as Diana Patton, Chuck Mencke, and Lawrence Reid. Their duties range from technical to clerical, from operations and security and major system updates to creating content, proofreading, and uploading information.
Michael Levy says, “I approach collaboration by catering to the strengths of each member of this team. ”Everyone on the web team agrees that this is a fabulous, collaborative group with wonderful synergy.” They meet formally once a month, but they often text, call, or email each other to keep on top of their tasks.
Although the team does need some technically savvy members, there is plenty of room for non-techies to oversee content and editing issues. Chuck Mencke says, “Being personable and patient as the learning progresses are two key qualities for anyone wanting to join the web team.” If you know how to use Microsoft Word, you would be a valuable addition to this team.
In true Toastmasters spirit, every member of this amazing web team has said that they would love to mentor any new additions to the committee, whether that role was to be administrative or technical.
Each of these web team members faces different challenges in their roles. Diana needs to ensure that all the D25 messaging from a multitude of sources is consistent. Lawrence is working on the very demanding task of website database management and automation. Chuck finds that time management, not just of his own time but of all the moving parts of this organization, is his biggest hurdle. Michael says that plugins and security reviews are his forefront priorities with over four hundred pages of content to be linked and updated throughout the year.
The team knows that keeping up with modern technology is the best way to serve District 25. They are currently looking at ways to improve the search capabilities of the website as well as to improve online event registration. This team knows that the members’ online experience is of utmost importance.
“Just knowing that we are providing a service to our members,” is Diana’s reward for serving in her role. All the web team members agree that service is its own reward. The D25 website is recognized globally for its resourceful content, and each member’s individual contributions helped to achieve this outstanding recognition.
One of the best things about serving on the web team is that you get to know everything that is going on in the district. And there are some amazing things going on with extraordinary achievements and successes. Lawrence captured the spirit of this sentiment when he said, “With my team’s support and perseverance, I will succeed.”
All the web team members want to wish the entire District 25 a happy holiday season and offer their final word on the D25 web team.
“Just start clicking,” says Diana, while Lawrence says, “We welcome those willing to grow with us.”
Chuck says, “All year long, the web team is honored to provide ‘presents’ to the members of District 25, ensuring the website is unequaled in providing the resources that our members need.” The final word from Michael is, “Don’t be afraid to reach out to our team. We are here to help you succeed. Get involved and help a fellow member succeed in their Toastmasters journey!”
Happy Holidays from the web team! Ho ho ho!
