Ever gone to the same place on vacation in a different year and had a completely different experience – just as special – but NOT THE SAME at all? That was this year’s 2023 Summit! Although I’ve been to the Summit more than once – this was my first time to experience the Summit as not only a Speaker but also as a Club Officer as well as an Attendee.
As a workshop SPEAKER, (“Optimizing your Toastmaster Experiences”), I experienced firsthand the terrific behind-the-scenes support. When I arrived, the equipment was set up, my slide was on screen, the introduction page was ready, and two AV people and two volunteers were on hand to help! (Thank you Colleyville President Jim Jameson and Summit staff!) As a SPEAKER, I enjoyed engaging with new and seasoned members looking to stretch their speaking skills in a new way. Learning from each other is the BEST.
As an ATTENDEE, I enjoyed three excellent workshops. Jeni’s workshop on spreading joy ended in a surprise Bollywood dance lesson. So fun (and yes, I shot video!). Claryce’s fascinating insights into engaging millennials had me wishing it could keep going. I learned more in that hour than from my own millennials at home! And finally, Dr. Stephi’s workshop on mining brilliance had me re-thinking how I should be mining my own – and led us into a deeper discussion that I’m sure will continue. I loved these workshops.

As a club officer, I appreciated the representation from my home clubs – nine from Southlake and six from Colleyville TM. But, I think the BEST testament to the Summit success was when one of the workshop attendees was motivated enough to show up at our Monday 6:50am Southlake club meeting – and joined on the spot!

I’m used to laughing and smiling my way through weekly TM meetings. But I did not realize I’d laugh and smile my way through the Summit. Folks are doing something right. These are my people.
