Navigating a Pathways Path

We will describe actions for locating and navigating a Pathways path.  We will be discussing the following:

  • Accessing your curriculum
  • Accessing educational content on your curriculum
  • Launching a project
  • Navigation tips
  • Assessing your skills – before
  • How to access your project and evaluation for printing
  • Assessing your skills – after

Since Pathways was designed to provide feedback and assessment of adult learners, we will need to assess our skills before and after reading the material and delivering a speech.

Accessing your curriculum

Login to Toastmasters International (TI) to access your profile (www.toastmasters.org/login). Once logged into the website click on your name, which is highlighted in yellow on computers (Figure 1).  When your profile opens select Go in the “Go to Base Camp” dark blue square to the left (Figure 2).

You will route to Basecamp where you will see five panels and below them links to access your curriculum (Figure 3).

Accessing educational content on your curriculum

You can access a Path by clicking on Open Curriculum to the right of the transcript item (Figure 4).  This opens a new window that shows the Levels for that Path on the left.  You can see your overall percent completion for the Path as well as the progress on the Level.  By selecting a radio button to the left of the listed Levels allows you to access that level (Figure 5).  When you access a level, you will see the projects required and available for selection.

Launching (opening) a project

If you have never launched a project, you will need to select the button to the right of the project listed as “Activate.”  When you select the button, the button will change to show “Launch” (Figure 6)  When you open a project for the first time it opens on the Title page.  To begin navigating to the project select the white on maroon Begin arrow that points to the right (Figure 7).

Note:  Once you have launched the project, the project returns to the last page you had accessed.  Select the Launch button to open the project, which will open in a new tab.

Navigation Tips

Each project has navigation arrows to move forward or backwards through the project.  To see the content within the project and to quickly move to a section, members can select the dropdown menu accessed t the bottom center of the page in a red box that allows quick navigation to key sections of each project (Figure 8).  This index is available as soon as you leave the title page as are the silver(grey) navigation arrows.  Every project has similar sections with only the content changing.

Read the Introduction page so that you know what skill you will learn and the Your Assignment page so that you understand what you will be doing.  Each assignment page will have a checklist that you can download and or print.

Assessing your skills – before

Assessing our skills before and after working the project and applying the content allows us to gauge our comprehension and skill building.  You take the assessment by answering each question, selecting Next, and after the last question selecting submit at the end.  Submit does not appear until you have answered the last question.  The small radio buttons reflect the number of questions and track your progress through the assessment (Figure 9).  When you hit submit, you will see a pop-up window showing that you have answered the questions.  Once you see the pop-up window, continue navigating through the project (Figure 10).

How to access your project and evaluation for printing

As you progress through a project, you will get to the complete your assignment page that describes that actions needed finish.  The “Your Evaluation” page has hyperlinks in red that allow you to access pdf files of the project, the evaluation, and any other documents needed to complete the project. 

After developing your speech, members will need to download their evaluation, print the document, and bring to the club so that their evaluator can complete their evaluation.

Assessing your skills – after

After completing the project by performing, gaining knowledge, and contemplating the new competencies developed, we get to assess our progress using the same scale used before the project.  The process is the same as the before assessment – answer the questions until the submit button appears (Figure 11).  You will see a pop-up screen that shows your ratings before and after (Figure 12).

Hitting submit for the project flags the system that the project is finished.  There are two pieces of visual feedback that tell us we did the step successfully.  First, we move forward to a congratulations screen (Figure 13) and, second, a check mark appears above the monitor next to the project description (Figure 14).

Evaluate Your Project

When a member completes a project, the “Launch” button changes to “Evaluate” for 10 days and the member receives an email that asks the member to select a link and complete the evaluation of the project.
