Are you familiar with TED Talks? TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design. The organization invites notable thinkers from around the world to present their ideas on a public stage in 18 minutes or less. It is a nonprofit organization devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading” (www.ted.com). Once you view a few of TED’s videos, you get hooked and are filled with awe for the presenter’s clarity of thought.
TEDxYouth Fort Worth is a local independent event endorsed by TED providing a forum for the youth of Fort Worth and surrounding communities to step up and find their voice.
CALL FOR MENTORS!
TEDxYouth Fort Worth is seeking teachers, leaders and Toastmasters to guide youth as mentors during their youth public speaking training. The 8-week course for middle and high school students meets one evening a week from 6 to 8 pm, April 5, 2012 to May 24, 2012. Training for mentors will be held March 21, 2012 at 6:00 pm at Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT).
The primary role of the Youth Mentor is to develop a personal and positive rapport with a youth in order to coach the youth through the TEDx Talk Training program. The mentor’s responsibility is to help the youth achieve presentation excellence through observation, interactive communication and positive reinforcement. The mentor will guide the youth in developing his or her unique voice, refining their message, connecting with the audience and customizing delivery skills to enhance the youth’s character and personality.
Dr. Jeff Johnson, DTM, Chairman of TEDxYouth Fort Worth, in reflecting on the role of volunteers commented, “Through TED our members can use their experience to help a young person effectively find their voice, and share their passion.” For more information visit www.tedxyouthfortworth.com or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
