Michelle Thomas was born in Jamaica, but has lived in Dallas, Texas since 1986.  In 1993, she began her studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a bachelors degree in Microbiology.  She later earned dual master degrees in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration from Texas Woman’s University in 2000. 

In 2003, Michelle joined Toastmasters International.  Being in Toastmasters has been one of the most rewarding

experiences of her life.  It was through her affiliation with Toastmasters that she realized her passion for speaking.  Through speaking, she has and will continue to impact the lives of others in a positive way. 

As a result of her passion for helping others, she started Upward Potential in 2006.  The mission of Upward Potential is to motivate and equip individuals with the skills and behaviors to help them achieve their personal best.  

She speaks on a wide range of topics, including Time Management, Stress Management, Self Esteem, and Leadership.  Michelle has a genuine desire to speak and to help others.  When asked what makes her unique and why would someone want to attend or book her for a session, at first she thought her answer would be because she is passionate and she speaks well.  The reality is that many speakers speak well and are passionate about their craft.  What truly makes her unique is that she brings credibility to the table and offer applicable skills.  The things that she speaks about, she has experienced.  She lives and practices what she tells others to do.  And that makes all the difference.
